Controlling Consistent Skin Tones With SpeedLooks
Dec 30, 2020
"I just finished watching the first two seasons of Altered Carbon on Netflix and was amazed at the look and feel of this series. I would suggest watching it in HDR if at all possible." states Jeff August, Chief LookLabs Colorist. Unlike a lot of series in HDR, Altered Carbon has a very consistent high contrast look and feel, yet there is plenty of details in the very darkest blacks. One thing to note about this series is the consistency of skin tones. They are generally darker, warmer and full of saturation. This can be difficult to do with the huge number of looks they use in this sci-fi series.
Re-creating the looks of the show is made easy when using our SpeedLooks narrative LUT's. But how do you control the skin tones? "LookLabs' Look Designer, Jerome Sabourin spent endless hours creating the smoothest artifact-free color curves as possible. SpeedLooks LUT's were deigned for colorists to still isolate skin tones, correct them with ease while not fighting the LUT and not creating dreaded color artifacts" says August.
SpeedLooks are a great tool to quickly start visualizing and experimenting with potential color palettes without being a professional colorist…have fun and check out this Netflix teaser for Altered Carbon.
